Professional Tooth Whitening Treatment

At the Rectory Dental Clinic, we offer some of the most advanced tooth whitening treatments to help you achieve a brighter, more confident smile. Using safe, effective, and modern whitening techniques. There are 3 ways in which tooth whitening can be achieved

Chairside Tooth Whitening

Chairside tooth whitening is a professional dental treatment carried out directly in the dentist’s surgery and provides immediate results. Unlike at-home whitening systems that may take one to two weeks, chairside whitening can noticeably brighten the teeth in a single appointment, usually lasting between 60 and 90 minutes. This makes it a popular choice for patients who want fast cosmetic improvements before a special occasion such as a wedding, holiday, or important event.

One of the main advantages of chairside whitening is the speed of the treatment. Patients can often leave the dental practice with teeth several shades whiter after just one visit. Because the procedure is performed under professional supervision, the dentist can control the application carefully and monitor any tooth sensitivity or discomfort during treatment.

However, chairside whitening is usually more expensive than home whitening methods because it involves professional equipment, materials, and clinical time. In addition, although the results are immediate, they may not always last as long as dentist-supervised at-home tray whitening. Some patients may require occasional top-up treatments to maintain the brightness of their teeth, especially if they regularly consume staining foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, or tobacco products. Overall, chairside whitening is an effective and convenient option for rapid tooth whitening.

This is the most expensive of the three options.

Teeth Whitening with Dentist Custom Made Trays

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental treatment used to improve the appearance of stained or discoloured teeth. One of the most effective methods is professional at-home whitening provided by a dentist. In this process, the dentist first examines the patient’s teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy enough for whitening treatment. Impressions of the teeth are then taken to create custom-made trays that fit comfortably and accurately over the teeth. These trays are designed specifically for the patient, allowing the whitening gel to stay in close contact with the tooth surfaces while minimising irritation to the gums.

The patient is given a whitening material, usually containing carbamide peroxide, which is placed inside the trays. The trays are typically worn for a few hours each day or overnight, depending on the strength of the whitening gel and the dentist’s instructions. Over one to two weeks, the teeth gradually become lighter in colour. This method is considered safe and effective because it is supervised by a dental professional and tailored to the patient’s needs

Teeth Whitening Strips

There are many different types of whitening strips, some good some bad. In the UK whitening strips must be prescribed by a Dentist, they are not allowed to be sold in the UK. They are thin, flexible plastic strips coated with a whitening gel. The strips are applied directly to the teeth for a set period of time each day, usually around 30 minutes.
